thefirsthorcrux:

“A Patronus is a kind of positive force, and for the wizard who can conjure one, it works something like a shield, with the Dementor feeding on it, rather than him. In order for it to work, you need to think of a memory. Not just any memory, a very happy memory, a very powerful memory… Allow it to fill you up… lose yourself in it… then speak the incantation ‘Expecto Patronum’.”

It was like the maze was alive; it kept coming after her no matter how fast she ran. Her feet pounded, stumbling on the vines that threatened to seize her any second. She rounded a corner and saw a figure up ahead, pausing her in mid-run. It could be anyone, and if it was Krum, she needed to get out fast. It seemed the vines had retreated because she hadn’t been sucked under. She moved forward, slower this time, until the figure came into view.It was Harry, leaning against the wall of the maze, panting. She was cautious, but Harry was okay, she thought to herself; if it hadn’t been for him, there’s no way she would’ve made it through the first task. “Harry?” she said. He looked round, only noticing her now; he looked scared, his eyes wild. “Who’s there?!” he shouted back, louder than he should’ve. Krum was nearby and if he heard them things could get ugly. “It’s me,” she lowered her voice and drew closer, “Katniss.” “Oh, okay,” he breathed. There was a silence between them; Harry kept looking around, unable to keep still for more than a second. His hands went to his head, “I feel like I’m going crazy.” “It’s the maze,” Katniss looked around, “You heard what Dumbledore said. It changes people.” “But I don’t want to change,” he said, grabbing fists of his hair, “I didn’t even ask for this.” Katniss stood beside him and squeezed his arm in comfort, “None of us did, really.” “I can’t do this, Katniss.” “Well, we can still get out, if you want.” Harry looked up, confused, “What do you mean?” “We’ll shoot some sparks. I’d rather have my sanity than ‘eternal glory’,” she said. A smile edged on the corner of Harry’s lips, “But you’ll have to do it. I dropped my wand trying to escape the maze.” Harry nodded and stood away from the edge of the maze. He shot his wand into the air and red sparks emerged in the sky. He turned back to her. “Don’t worry. We’ll be out of here in no time.”
